Everyone loves the occasional yummy treat, especially when going to a cook out or bbq. The menu wouldn’t be complete without a festive dessert. A quick and easy idea for this 4th of July is the American Flag cake. This makes an awesomely patriotic centerpiece to add to your picnic table. Jefferson Pointe has a community lounge and two courtyards with out door seating where our residents can have their own celebration.
You will need:
1 – 9X13 inch pan
1 – Box of cake mix (you can go with a plain white cake or funfetti)
1 – Container of white frosting (for a healthier option go with whipped topping)
1 – Large container of strawberries or raspberries
1 – Container of black or blue berries
Bake the cake as directed and let it fully cool. If using strawberries cut them into halves, smaller if the berries are large. Cover your cake with the topping of your choice. There are 7 red stripes on the flag and 6 white but this is a cake and doesn’t have to be perfect. Begin on the top left corner of your cake by laying out a square of black or blue berries. As a guideline make a horizontal row on the bottom and top of the cake with the strawberries or raspberries. All of the berries should point in the same direction. Fill in the rows with the red berries, making sure to press them down into your topping. If you went with whipped topping be sure to refrigerate the cake until you want to put your edible flag on display. This cake is sure to taste great and be a party favorite, don’t count on any leftovers.
